The Free Edition and the Game Guide are also available directly from this site.
The overall aesthetic of IsoMetro™ is a nod to city builder games from decades ago. Even the graphics rendering engine ditches fancy modern 3D effects in favor of using truly old-school techniques to push pre-rendered perspectives to the screen, which both gives it that classic grainy pixelated look and helps avoid stability and performance issues on hardware that would otherwise be considered underpowered or on graphics drivers that are notoriously unstable.
Building upon the mechanics introduced by those original 1990s city-builder pioneers, IsoMetro™ leverages the vastly superior processing capabilities found even in today's "low-end" hardware to power a surprisingly nuanced and authentic economic simulation. It's not as simple as "big city, big buildings" -- economic effects are specific to every individual tile, and they only reach as far as your transportation infrastructure allows, encouraging you to think carefully about transit options and zoning policy if you want to see dense, vibrant city centers take shape.
IsoMetro™ Free Edition uses the same intricate simulation engine as is powering the Gold Edition, to breathe life into a smaller set of visually more simple buildings, many of which evolved from the placeholder assets used for prototyping as far back as when development first began. Free Edition buildings fit into three economic markets corresponding to the three zone types. While the Free Edition is already a fully playable game on its own, it does not include the soundtrack, and the multiplayer capabilities are only usable for direct connections, unless you own the Gold Edition (which allows you to use the infrastructure powering the Server Browser, even for the Free Edition).
IsoMetro™ Gold Edition features buildings of a far higher level of visual detail, and far more of them. The buildings fit into 12 distinct economic markets for more intricate relationships to form between parts of your city, which you can interlink with a wider range of transit options. More government services and utility infrastructure options exist, so for example, you can choose between cheap, heavily-polluting energy sources and cleaner, renewable ones. Enjoy the rich, all-original 90-minute soundtrack that perfectly nails the energy of 1990s city building games, and effortlessly build cities with your friends using the multiplayer Server Browser without any port-forwarding headaches.
